Our Philosophy

We're chasing that feeling

Pushing on a climb through the pines, legs burning, Mediterranean sun on your back. Playing attacks with mates you met two days ago. Cresting the top and seeing the sea.

Knowing that in a few hours you'll be back at the villa - feet in the pool, cold beer in hand, the BBQ going. That specific, earned satisfaction that only cyclists know.

Mediterraneo Retreats exists for that. Not for ego racers. Not for beginners on a sightseeing tour. A community of passionate riders who love the sport, love good company, and want the full experience - a curated selection of the most iconic routes in the region, a luxury masía, recovery facilities, and the kind of evenings you actually remember.

01

The Routes

Girona is widely considered the world's greatest road cycling base. We ride a curated selection of its most iconic routes - coastal cliffs, legendary climbs, quiet roads through pine forest. Serious miles, zero ego.

02

The Community

Small group, no-drop philosophy. You ride together, eat together, suffer and laugh together. Strangers become friends by Sunday night - not a side effect, it's the whole point. Built for intermediate to advanced cyclists who love the sport.

03

The Masía

A quintessential private Catalan mansion. Pool, jacuzzi, sauna, garden, fireplace. You don't have to think about anything except riding, recovering, and enjoying it.

The Plan

Each day, a new landscape.
A new challenge. A new reward.

Every morning starts with a proper breakfast — fuel for what's ahead. Then you ride. Then you come back, recover, and enjoy the masía. Five days that follow that rhythm — and somehow feel like more.

Day 1
Thursday
18 June

Arrival & Welcome Aperitivo

Arrive from 4pm. Drop your bags, roll out your legs on an optional shakeout if you need to shake off the journey. Then the welcome aperitivo — sharing plates, wine, cold drinks, the first proper look at who you're riding with all week. No agenda. Just settle in.

Day 2
Friday
19 June

The Coastal Classic & BBQ Feast

The 20km stretch from Sant Feliu de Guixols to Tossa de Mar is, for many, the finest road in all of Catalonia. The whole group starts riding together today, before splitting between advanced and intermediate! Beginning with Els Àngels — one of Girona's great climbs — before the coast road opens up along the Mediterranean. Riviera cycling at its very best. Back at the masía: BBQ feast in the garden, long evening together.

Mare de Déu del Mont & Rocacorba

Climbing day! Advanced riders climb to the Mare de Déu del Mont sanctuary — from Besalú, possibly the most iconic climb around, joining the final 7km where the road opens to Pyrenees views. Intermediate riders take on Rocacorba, Girona's rite of passage: 12km at 7.4% average, with the single best view of the city from the summit. Afternoon recovery at the masía, then Saturday evening discovering Girona, its historical timeless beauty, the famous coffee shops and bike stores — it's the cycling world's capital!

Montseny Scenic Loop & Masía Dinner

Where Girona's pros train for the grand tours. The Montseny Massif takes you through the steep Osor Valley, past metallic viaducts suspended above the road, and down to the Susqueda Reservoir and its impressive dam. Everyone rides together today. Back at the masía: the long-table dinner under the pergola, local wines, and delicious food is served!

Closer than you think

The masía is 15 minutes from Girona city and 15 minutes from Girona Airport. It doesn't get much easier.

Flying in

Girona Airport (GRO) is the easy option - Ryanair connections from across Europe, 15 minutes from the masía. Barcelona El Prat (BCN) also works, about 1.5 hours by car or train.

Transfers

Depending on your arrival time, Girona airport pickup may be possible. We'll also help coordinate shared rides with other riders arriving at similar times. Just let us know when you book.

Bikes

Bring your own if you can - always better. If you need to rent, we work with a trusted local Girona shop and can arrange a quality road bike at a fair price. Flag it when you register.

The things people actually ask

What fitness level do I need?
Comfortable riding 80–120km with 1,000–1,500m of climbing. You don't need to be fast. You need to enjoy the day, not just survive it. If you're not sure, email us and we'll be straight with you.
I'm coming solo - will I know anyone?
Most people are. That's kind of the point. By Friday evening you'll have a riding group. By Sunday you'll have a WhatsApp thread going.
My partner isn't a cyclist - can they come?
Absolutely. The masía is a wonderful place to spend five days off the bike - pool, garden, jacuzzi, day trips to Girona or the Costa Brava. Same couples rate applies.
What about safety and insurance?
We carry civil liability insurance for the retreat. You're responsible for your own personal health and travel insurance - we'll confirm this at booking. Helmet required on all rides.
What's the cancellation policy?
Deposits are non-refundable unless we cancel. Balance refunded in full if you cancel before May 1. After May 1, non-refundable - but we'll do everything we can to find a replacement for your spot.
Will this run again?
That's the plan. Girona is just the first edition. More dates, more regions. Alumni get first access to future retreats.

Built by a cyclist, for cyclists

Mediterraneo Retreats was created by Riccardo, a lifelong cyclist and endurance athlete based in Barcelona. After years of riding the roads around Girona - and too many trips spent sorting logistics instead of enjoying them - the idea was simple: do it properly.

Small group. Right routes. A place worth coming back to. People worth riding with.
